Pursuing Team Honor and Resilience
2024 Central Police University Annual Sports Day
Deputy Minister of the Interior Ma Shih-yuan presided over the opening ceremony of the 43rd Central Police University (CPU) Sports Day on November 15, 2024. Students showcased their creativity by energetically parading in various themed costumes, portraying different characters. Deputy Minister Ma not only felt the students’ enthusiasm, vitality, and energy but also encouraged them to develop professional expertise and maintain robust physical fitness as future police officers. He emphasized the importance of cultivating team spirit and fostering unity through the competitive events, embodying CPU’ s educational philosophy of "balancing intellectual and physical excellence while integrating skills and ethics."
Despite CPU's relatively small student body of just over 1,000, they consistently excel in various national competitions. For example, at this year’s National Intercollegiate Athletic Games, they achieved outstanding results by winning 6 gold, 4 silver, and 5 bronze medals. These achievements are a testament to the school’s rigorous daily training and the students’ determination to challenge themselves and strive for excellence.
Ma Shih-yuan also fired the starting shot for the most anticipated event of the games — the tug-of-war contest. This competition not only fosters team spirit but also tests unity and coordination. In just a few minutes, pulling a single rope symbolizes uniting as one and working together with determination. This pursuit of team honor reflects CPU’s core values and embodies the steadfast belief that future leaders in law enforcement must uphold.
Lastly, Ma Shih-yuan encouraged students of CPU to cultivate good exercise habits. He emphasized that the annual Sports Day serve to promote a culture of exercise among both students and faculty. Through these competitions, CPU aims to train well-rounded police leaders, who excel both academically and physically, to be ready to dedicate themselves in maintaining public safety and order in society.
