CPU 88th Anniversary: Continuing to Cultivate Outstanding Law Enforcement Officers

Deputy Minister of the Interior Ma Shih-yuan attended the “88th Anniversary and Opening Ceremony” of Central Police University on September 1, 2024. 21st Outstanding Alumni Award also took place and eight outstanding alumni received honors from Deputy Minister Ma. He encouraged all students to embody democratic values, uphold the rule of law, and maintain professional standards as future law enforcement officers. Ma also emphasized the importance of staying current by leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance knowledge and training, strengthen defense resilience, and fully safeguard public security, thereby serving as a pillar of support for the people.
Deputy Minister Ma stated that today’s outstanding alumni include Chang Jung-hsin, Director-General of the National Police Agency; Li Hsi-ho, Commissioner of the Taipei City Police Department; Lee Ching-an, Consultant of the New Taipei City Government; Lin Zhi-xiong, Superintendent of Taichung Prison, Agency of Corrections, Ministry of Justice; Liao Te-cheng, Director of the Fleet Branch of the Coast Guard Administration, Ocean Affairs Council; Hsieh Wen-chung, Chief Secretary of the National Immigration Agency; Lee Dai-jen, Director of the Criminal Department of the Judicial Yuan; and Chang Kuang-ming, Director of the Department of Crime Prevention and Control at Ming Chuan University. Each outstanding alumnus demonstrated exceptional performance across various fields, including police administration, firefighting, corrections, coast guard, immigration, judiciary, and academia. He encouraged current students to look up to these distinguished alumni, strive for excellence in various sectors of society, and uphold the university’s reputation.
Deputy Minister Ma also highlighted that with technological advancements and international changes, the police face new challenges in maintaining social order and national security. He encouraged all students to not only focus on their professional studies but also stay informed about social development, international affairs, and environmental changes. He emphasized the importance of keeping an open mindset and collaborating with various sectors, including businesses, religious organizations, and volunteer groups, to joinly safeguard national security.
Finally, Deputy Minister Ma expressed his gratitude to Central Police University for its dedicated efforts in advancing police education. He encouraged all faculty and students to uphold the educational values of their alma mater, honor the distinguished traditions set by past alumni, and continue to innovate and excel. He also extended special thanks to forensic expert Dr. Henry Lee for his generous donation of valuable criminal case materials, original crime scene photos, important documents, and a substantial collection of professional books, magazines, and research reports. These contributions provide the university with a unique archive, enhancing its ability to gain a deeper understanding of the past, insights into the present, and forecasts for the future.
