Central Police University Renovates Gymnasium to Enhance Sports Training Quality

publish date : 2024-06-20
Located on the windswept, rainy, and often foggy Linkou Plateau, Central Police University has long sought to create an indoor space where faculty, students, and the surrounding community could engage in activities regardless of weather conditions. In its early days, the gymnasium's basement served as a makeshift area for kendo, table tennis, and basic military training.

The gymnasium was completed in 1978 and has been in use for over 46 years. The original facilities in the basement, including the kendo arena, table tennis room, and deportment training area, have become outdated, affecting the quality of student sports activities and teaching. Mr. Barry Lam, Chairman of the Pou Chen Foundation, wished to honor Mr. Hung-Yi Kuo, who had served as the kendo instructor for the school's courses and clubs for many years and actively dedicated himself to promoting police kendo development. Recognizing that the school is a cradle for cultivating law enforcement leaders and that the learning environment is crucial, Dr. Lam made a special donation to renovate the gymnasium's basement into a multi-functional sports arena. This renovation includes the installation of modern, high-quality educational and training facilities, aimed at enhancing the quality of students' athletic activities and learning effectiveness.

After renovation, the gymnasium's basement has been transformed from an outdated and basic space into a vibrant, safe, comfortable, and fully-equipped facility. The revamped area now caters to a wide range of activities, including kendo and table tennis clubs, as well as aerobics, dance, yoga, running, and various indoor recreational pursuits. This comprehensive makeover has been met with enthusiasm from students, faculty, and staff alike, significantly enhancing the effectiveness of teaching, training, and extracurricular activities. The modernized space not only meets diverse athletic needs but also provides a conducive environment for overall student development and engagement.
