publish date : 2021-04-15
Recently, the concept of defensive caught the attention of our communities. “Defensive driving” means the drivers have to not only follow the traffic rules, but also pay attention to their surrounding environment. In order to avoid accidents, drivers should always keep their eyes and ears open, anticipate the possible situations and take defensive action in advance. CPU graduates serve as leaders of front line police forces should definitely possess the senses of defensive driving senses.

CPU has established the safety driving training in both cars and motorcycles since 2015. Furthermore, since 2017 the car-driving practices have been splitted into the basic safe driving and the defensive driving. Basic safe driving training is designed for the four-year curriculum student cadets, who might need to enhance their driver’s fundamental driving concept due to lack of driving experience. The defensive driving training is designed for two-year curriculum student cadets, although with more driving experience, can strengthen their driving skills and defensive senses. Almost 400 students have completed the said training since 2020.

CPU continuously entrusted the professional driving educational center to offer the defensive car-driving practices in 2021. Four sessions were provided during the 2021 winter break. Although the student cadets, who are currently serving at police and coast guard organizations, acquired certain level of driving skills and experience through their time at work, many of whom are even veterans who have been driving for more than 10 years, most of them merely finished the course at driving schools, with driving skills that are not superior than the general public. If students develop a keen sense of defensive driving, they can not only avoid casualties caused by traffic accidents on duty, but also ensure the safety of the people. Defensive driving is a significant professional ability for students to establish in their future career.

In order to cooperate with the government's policy on disease prevention, to follow the scheduled timeline, and to ensure the best quality of training during the epidemic this year, the student cadets were asked to live in dormitories with no exception. They are required to check body temperature every day and night, perform alcohol disinfection before and after trips to the educational center, and wear medical face masks at all times. Both the cadets and the center had cooperated thoroughly to prevent virus infection and accomplish the training.
