"Practice make professional": International Students' Off-Campus Visit

Based on the teaching philosophy “Practice is the best way for students to feel the meaning of learning”, the Office of International Exchange Program in CPU holds “off-campus visit” each semester for all the international students. This visit provides CPU international students the law-enforcing experiences could have in-depth understanding of the policing situation and operating mode in our country and to enhance the professional ability by bilateral communicating as well as visiting the police and immigration agencies.
The Chair of Department of Foreign Affairs Police, also serving as the mentor of all of the international students, Dr. Sheng-hsiu Chiu, led the international students to visit the Criminal Investigation Bureau Anti-fraud hotline “165”, to introduce the government policies and actions to international students. The chief of Crime Prevention Affairs Division, Ruei-ji Chen, Sub-Division Chief Guo-lun Hong and Junior Inspector Jia-xun Chang were responsible for reception and tour guide. In addition to the functions and service of the anti-fraud hotline “165”, the students had the opportunity to understand more about the latest fraud strategies in telecom, financial and Internet.
During the visit, the students also observed and learned how the “165” call takers received the phone call from members of the public, and the “Question and Answer” part was the climax of the event. Students asked lots of professional questions with their law-enforcing experience, such as the investigation of the Internet virtual gambling fraud. They were curious about whether the hotline “165” also has branches abroad; whether the “165” cooperates with other countries; whether the telecommunication police patrol for fraud. They also asked if the “165” has multilingual service; if the “165” office has the right to block bank accounts; if the “165” has any precautions or systems for decreasing the fraud since what they handle are usually the occurred incidents; how your country cooperates with our country in investigating and taking back the money which victims lost, etc. For these questions, the director CHEN, the Sub-Division chief HONG and all of the related officers listened and explained every question carefully and passionately.
Walking out of the campus, the students gained the abilities and knowledge which are more needed in real life practice. All of the international students gained such benefits and learned a lot during this visit.
