Deputy Mayor of New Taipei City, You-yi Hou was invited to give a talk entitled “Don’t forget your original intention!” on Friday, Nov. 8, 2013.

Deputy Mayor of New Taipei City, You-yi Hou, mentioned several characteristics that police officers must be possessed of:

1. Take everything easy: Be confident, accept any co-workers. Every job has its difficulty and hard time. Stay in the position and make the best use of yourself.

2. Be compassionate: Use strict punishments but also be kind hearted.

3. Be persistent: Be disciplinary and revolutionary. Be firm while facing the lure of society.

4. Leadership: Deal with everything in proper order. Build trust and team work; Lead the team, emphasize the work ethics; practice what you preach.

Besides those characteristics, Deputy Mayor Hou mentioned to cultivate personal abilities:

1. Analysis: Make judgment towards person, cases, time, places, objects, especially suspicious person.

2. Decisive ability: Face the facts, solve the problems. Face the music and accept responsibility. Solve crisis from media.

3. Practice: Find yourself and respect yourself. Map out short-term, mid-term and long-term plans; go for it.

4. Creativity: Feel confident because you are one-of-a-kind! Creativity doesn’t come from nothing. Find your main skills, talents and enlarge it based on the origin of the basis. Change your attitude and accept the new concept, so you won’t be left behind from the world. Store your energy for the bright future. Change your mind; take your action and your destiny will be changed.

In the end, Deputy Mayor Hou encouraged all the students and said “Everyone has different reason to study in Central Police University. You should ask yourself what you want to learn or to do? Everyone may take diverse roads toward future. Keep your original thoughts and persist in it. It doesn’t matter whether you are in a high or low position, but the devotion to society. Even a small citizen serving case makes a tremendous value and meaning. Don’t forget your original intention and get your own way!
