"The Modern View on the Art of Calligraphy" by Professor Chang Bin Huang

Professor Chang Bin Huang, also the President of R.O. C. calligraphy association and a well-known calligraphist, gave a speech on a topic of "the Modern View on the Art of Calligraphy" on May 13th at CPU.
During the speech, Pro. Chang listed six principles of written Chinese, i.e. self-explanatory characters, pictographs, pictophonetic characters, associative compounds, mutually explanatory characters and phonetic loan characters, and explained how they combine with its shape, sound, and meaning of words. He indicated that calligraphy not only can be integrated with the art of literature, but also linked with music, dance, the art of tea culture, and flora art to cultivate human capacity and enhance the practicability in daily life.
Pro. Chang demonstrated the art of calligraphy in the presence of the audience at the end of the speech. Everyone could see such a splendid moment in person through the live filming on the screen and was deeply impressed.
